Here is a bird commonly seen in our area that we usually overlook. It is a dull looking bird, just black with a brown head. But if you get the sunlight just right, the black body shines an iridescent blue. This species lays its eggs in the nests of other birds, consequently we see them in areas hosting many birds such as parks and forests.
In the main picture, the bird's head is in a spotlight formed by a gap in the leaves. We added the picture below to show a cowbird in more even lighting.

We like the way the light and pose make the bird look good, but just a few seconds earlier this bird wasn't quite as dignified...

The middle picture, of the bird in the grass, is a composite of two images taken seconds apart. In one the end of the bird's tail is missing and in the second the bird is looking away.
