The Red Alder is a "pioneer" species, it fills in quickly after an event clears a west coast forest of its tall conifers. This stand is in Campbell Valley Park, southeast of Vancouver. Our attention was attracted by the way the branches of the trees in the background enhance the prominent central tree.
