We visited the Reifel Bird Sanctuary on Good Friday and saw the first goslings of the year, so we thought this photograph would be appropriate. It was actually taken last year at about this time (mid April). The goose had chosen to place the nest right beside a walkway and had gotten used to human presence. A 200mm lens was used at a fairly large aperture (not recorded) to throw the foreground grass as far out of focus as possible. It was a sunny day, so the shutter speed (also not recorded) was fast enough to permit hand holding. The camera position was a compromise because of the grass and reeds, but we did try to find the best available while disturbing the bird as little as possible.
