This area is at the bottom of a hill with slopes on three sides. It is shaded by a forest on the south slope and consequently retains some water in its soil. There are Alder and Maple trees growing above an understory of many different plants and bushes. In the background you can just make out Cedar and Douglas Fir trees on the south slope.
Photography notes:
This picture was converted to black & white by using a "channel mixer" in post-processing. The effect simulates putting a photo filter on a camera loaded with B&W film. The filter would be a purplish-blue in colour, one that hasn't been made. It increases the contrast in the ground-cover leaves.
