This picture was made near a duck pond, we were trying to get some good photographs of the ducks. By chance we spotted this little guy and shifted our attention over to hime. Our previous hummingbird pictures were all made near a feeder, this one is 100% "in nature". The bird finished his meal at the Black Twinberry (Loniceia involucrata) flowers in just a few seconds. We got four photographs in total, this being the best.
The Anna's Hummingbird happens to be Vancouver's "Official City Bird"!
Photography notes:
With little time to do much than point the lens and capture the little bird before he flies away, the camera wasn't set for a hummingbird. It would have been nice if a faster shutter speed could have been selected but the bird was in the shade of the bush. A higher shutter speed would have also required a higher, noisier ISO.
