Alder Leaf

This Sitka Alder leaf fell onto some bracken and was lit by a small spot of sunlight breaking through the forest canopy. Alder leaves don't turn colour much, they just fall from the tree maybe a little lighter in shade and maybe a little more brown in tone. Fortunately our camera was right at hand because the spot of light only lasted for a few seconds. This image was envisioned from before the shutter button was pushed. The light coming from the right side was almost at the same plain as the leaf, amplifying its structure and texture. We find that black & white photographs emphasize texture in comparison to conventional clolour pictures.

Photography notes:

The image was converted to black & white, its contrast increased and the background darkened in postprocessing.
