These three birds were walking along a dirt path on a dyke on Westham Island, south of Vancouver. People often stoll this path and these birds were accustomed to their presence. There was barely enough time to set up a tripod and make this picture before they walked past us into a less appealing background.
This picture is a particularly good background for tablets in the vertical orientation.
Photography notes:
It was lucky to get the front bird so nicely in focus head to body, as the depth of field was very shallow. The cameras was set to continuously autofocus on the head of the front bird. The only postprocessing was to brighten the corners slightly to counter the lens' vignetting. Most lenses will have darker corners (vignetting) when they are used at their maximum aperture. The image editting software has an option to correct this.
