This is a favourite image as a computer background. This is the inner bark of a birch, more of the tree's trunk is shown on the right. The tree is beside a well used trail in a Metro-Vancouver public park.
Photography notes:
A small amount of the right side of the original image is cropped away because it was out of focus by the roundness of the tree. It appears that the lens has captured a lot of detail, and it has, but the key to this apparent sharpness is that the direction of the light emphasizes the wood's texture. The lens actually is very sharp but this picture would probably look good even with a lens with less resolution. Have a look at the computer background image!
