Passer domesticus

This species is apparently the most widely distributed wild bird, so you probably have one near you that also wants to be photographed. This one obligingly sat on the fencepost just long enough to get a good picture, but didn't hang around long enough to move the camera closer and fill the frame. Perhaps it is just as well, we would have had to close the aperture to increase the depth of focus and the bird wouldn't wait for it. As it is, the depth of focus is just right to get his image nicely sharp everywhere.

Photography notes:

The bird just fit into the depth of field in this photograph. In other photos made seconds apart from this one, either the closest wing feathers or the tail were a little out of focus. Have a look at the computer background image, everything is wonderfully sharp.
