Ring-necked Duck

This female Ring-necked Duck was on a stop-over in our area during one of her migrations. The strongest identifier of these ducks is the white ring around its beak, how it got its name from the much fainter ring around the neck is a puzzle. This breed of duck is not easy to see around Vancouver, as they only transit through our area on their rather long migration and even then they travel as singles or couples or in small loose groups.
