Licorice Fern

The Licorice Fern gets its name from the flavourful rhizome. It is frequently found growing in thick moss on the trunks of Big Leaf Maples and very showy during the winter months when it benefits from the wet weather and increase in sunlight due to the lack of leaves. During the dry summer months it goes dormant.

The camera was pointing almost straight up when this picture was made.
