Juvenile Great Blue Heron

The big Herons stay in the Vancouver area the whole year. They don't like to attract too much attention from people and living where they do by shallow water, it hasn't been too easy to get good pictures of them. But every once in a while one allows us to get a few images.

Our 300mm f4 auto-focus lens was used for this photograph. Although we didn't record the shutter speed or aperture, a tripod was used and the shallow depth of field suggests that the aperture was probably wide-open at f4. The image here is actually a slight crop of the original to raise the bird in the picture and to remove some of the reeds on the right.
