You can find driftwood at the high water level all around British Columbia's coast. Log booms occasionally break up in bad weather or trees just fall into the water. Over the years they are worn down by the waves and end up at places like Boundary Bay. This eagle had landed on the roots of a driftwood tree and was keeping watch over the Bay. With a long lens we were able to manoeuvre to get this picture with Mt. Baker in the background without frightening the bird.
Photography notes:
The lens used is what we bring just in case there might be bird or similar subject whree a longer focal length is needed. We usually use different lenses for bird photographs, but they are larger, heavier and a tripod is often involved. This lens fits nicely into a moderately large bag, is light enough to hand-hold, and produces good sharp images.
The computer background version of this image was lengthened a little bit using AI generation on both ends. The image at the top of this page shows the whole of the original picture.
