This is a (small) Bigleaf Maple leaf that has hallen upside-down onto a Doulas Fir log. Not only is this a nice computer background image, it makes a splendid large print. The thing that makes the print great is the amount of detail in the leaf. The picture below is zoomed into a small section to hint at the original's detail.

It took several attempts to get this photograph since the depth of field was so shallow and the shutter speed so long. We really ought to bring our tripod along more often! Otherwise this image is direct (only cropped and resized) from the original.
