The Camellia is one of the earliest flowering plants in our area. The flowers' appearance can vary widely but are usually very attractive. This particular flower has such a strong red colour that it is difficult to photograph well. The trick is to monitor the red channel carefully and "expose to the right" on that channel only. This means looking at the exposure histogram to try to maximize the exposure without losing detail. For this flower, this translated to "underexposing" by one stop.
