This photograph is a remake of an image we have previously shown. We find this is more powerful in black and white. There is a greater emphasis on the textures and composition and an apparent increase in contrast. (If you look at the numbers, there is no measurable change in contrast)
The conversion to black and white was made by Photoshop's "Channel Mixture" tool, which has the effect of selecting a coloured photo filter long after the exposure is made. (For the very fussy, there are subtle differences, but actually having and lugging around a set of B&W photographic filters and a monochrome camera is expensive and very inconvenient)
