As you drive north on the Dempster Highway in Canada's Yukon Territory, you pass the tree line for a couple of reasons. The obvious one is that you are heading further into the Arctic region and leave the northern limit of trees, the other is that sections of the highway go over a high elevation and you leave trees that would grow if the area was at a lower elevation. This section of the highway is around 800m elevation and is just north of the Tombstone Mountain Range. When you drive further north, you come into trees again as the road drops down to an elevation of around 500m.
