Hemlock Forest at Buntzen Lake

Photograph

Buntzen Lake, north-east of Vancouver, is an artificial lake that serves as a power reserve for the local electrical grid. The area around the lake is available for hiking and other outdoor activities (it's especially good for dog owners). This grove of hemlock is surrounded by cedar and douglas fir.

This image was created by "stacking" several photographs, each one having a slightly different focus. The technique was developed for microscope studies, where the depth of focus is extremely narrow. This resulting image is very detailed in all areas. It makes an excellent large print.
