We recently have seen a news report coming from England about a Unicef Christmas card showing a snowy evening village scene with carolers. The controversial point was the artist included a cresent moon in the shape of a capital C. Astronomers were pointing out that the moon was incorrect, and we think they had a point. People should have some knowledge of nature, the phases of the moon included. (In the northern hemisphere when there is a cresent moon in the evening, it arcs to the right like this picture)
This photograph is a composite of 33 images made with a astrograph (telescope intended for use with cameras) on a motorized mount tuned to the moon's motion. Each image is of a section of the moon since the telescope is too hig of a magnification is show the whole moon. The information for one of the images is below, all the others are similar to it.
