The Camelia originated in east Asia (primarily Japan, Korea, and eastern China), but has been a favourite bush of gardeners around the world for the past 200 years, or so. The plant likes moist climates, so the west coast of Canada is a prime area for them. The flowers can vary quite a bit depending on the particular variety. They are delicate though and are easily damaged, so it was fortunate to find this one in such good shape.
