Receding Winter Snow

Winter in the Canadian Rocky Mountains brings a mental picture that includes deep amounts of snow. But we often find that Jasper often has relatively little snow since it is on the lee side of the highest range of mountains. Here a combination of darker (snow melting) terrain and wind results in mostly open ground where the snow accumulates in wind-sheltered areas. It makes a nice pattern is this landscape picture.
