Sandhill Crane

Sandhill Cranes have been on the earth twice as long (about 2.5 million years) as most other species of bird. These rather large birds love to soar and, given good updraft thermals, are often seen very high in the sky. This one has been habituated to people and allows close approach sometimes, while feeding, it gets too close for the typical birding lens.
