This photo of the Western Anemone was taken near Blackcomb Lake during the Whistler BioBlitz 2010 event. It is a rather freqently seen alpine plant but many hikers are more familiar with the seedheads that gave rise to it's other common name: Mophead.
A BioBlitz is a 24 hour race in which scientists and naturalists gather to count all animal and plant species occuring in a specific area. This yearly event will help to track changes in bio-diversity which may be caused by climate change or human impact.
