Columbia Ground Squirrel

The Columbia Ground Squirrel is a cute but shy resident of Manning Provincial Park, several hundred kilometres east of Vancouver. This particular fellow is checking out the photographer near one opening to his nearby underground den. There were hundreds of them at the picnic ground where we were putting our kayak into Lightning Lake. A 300mm f2.8 telephoto lens was used (at f5.6) for this photograph. It was recorded onto Fuji Velvia film.
