The Dempster highway is over 700km long starting from the Klondike highway and reaching to Inuvik. A 140km extension was built from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk but it is not considered part of the Dempster. This photograph, taken about a third of the way from the Klondike highway junction, is (we believe) of a part of the northern Ogilvie mountain range. Further south, this range is tall and rugged however this part of the range shows the wear of thousands of freeze-thaw cycles.
