NWT Tundra

This photograph was taken steps away from the Dempster Highway in the Northwest Territories (Canada) approximately halfway between Fort MacPherson and the border to the Yukon Territory. The mountain in the background is part of the Richardson Range. This is arctic tundra in late summer. The plants are lighter in the creek beds (that were dry when this picture was taken) than the grass and scrub that covers most of this land. A little closer to Fort MacPherson (and the Peel River valley) the landscape changes to taiga.

Photography notes:

An HDR filter was applied to the original image to handle the large range of light.
