The very friendly people on Malcolm Island have a little hiking treasure called Bere Point Regional Park. The park has a campsite at the trailhead of a 5km walk in the forest, pictured above, that rings Beautiful Bay. The trail is mostly flat, although a creek cuts through it at nearly the halfway point. The creek has eroded a little valley that you must go down and up.
We visited the park early in the day, before a fog coming off the water had burned off. The fog added the right mood for a rainforest and softened the contrast, which allows more forest detail to be seen.
