Although we recently posted a photograph of a juvenile Great Blue Heron , we just had to show this one. We recently purchased a new lens (an 80 - 400mm zoom) and this is one of the first photographs made with it. The bird was found along a drainage ditch by a road on Westham Island which is just south of Vancouver. The photograph was made on Fuji Reala film at 1/80 sec. with the lens aperture "wide open" at a focal length of 400mm without a tripod. The lens has built-in electonics to reduce image blur when hand-holding for long exposure times for the focal length.
